I really enjoyed that he never targeted a specific age group, these ideas were open to people of all ages. Thus beginning to bridge that generational technology gap.

I also found that since this book was written in 1996 that it could be updated. When it comes to using computers in the classroom. We now see students doing amazing things at younger and younger ages. He talked about how schools are reluctant to change and how we should push to have such technology used more often in the classroom. While reading this you did need to really think like it was 1996 and not today when computers are being used in a kindergarten classroom. I found his views on technology very useful but at times outdated.

At the end of the book he talks about how technology will change the classroom in the "future"
which I foresee as being today. You are beginning to see more and more technology brought into the classroom. Papert saw what we are doing today when he wrote the book in 1996, I am guessing that today he is happy to see that changes we have made for the better in the classroom.

Book Review

"You can't think about thinking unless you think about thinking about something."

This is a quote I found interesting in the book The Connected Family: Bridging the Digital Generation Gap by Seymour Papert. For me the book really made me think about how times in technology have changed in my generation. From looking at a computer and seeing hard programs to use or just for gaming purposes, we now look at them and see endless opportunities to accomplish tasks.
I have learned so much about technology in the past 5 years that it is incredible. I have learned from my nephew as well as college professors. So for me the people that I have learned form had been huge. I have noticed that I have also taught many how to do things. Take PowerPoint for example there are so many little tricks, I feel like I know a lot until I have one of my high school students show me something new. The book really made me think of using technology in my classroom and how I will be able to help those that have never really used a computer to those students that have them memorized.
In chapter 6 they had some great projects that you could use in the classroom or even as a family project. Instead of just having the computer genius 16 year old do the work you could do something as a family.
The book was interesting and really made me thing about how we can help the age gap in learning technology, and for me as well as the skill level gap that we may have in our classrooms.
